Distress & Emotion Management

Do you sometimes feel like stress is getting the best of you? That others have more skillful ways of coping with the challenges life throws at us?

Distress & Emotion Management is a program designed to help you develop those coping skills as a means of managing your daily life and crises. In a group of 6-8 individuals, over 10 weeks, Mark Schorr, LPC, CADCI, a trainer and therapist with more than 25 years experience, will guide you through the following:

  • Week One: Mindfulness
  • Week Two: Science and Techniques of Change
  • Week Three and Four: Managing Crises
  • Week Five and Six: Understanding Emotions
  • Week Seven and Eight: Managing emotions
  • Week Nine: Breaking Bad Habits
  • Week Ten: Drawing on Your Strengths

The group is psychoeducational in format, as much a class as a therapy group, and includes handouts and exercises to practice. The material is drawn from DBT – one of the most clinically-tested therapy approaches; solution-focused therapy, which builds on client strengths; and motivational interviewing, which is most effective at helping people make positive changes. These methods include the work of Marsha Linehan, William Miller & Stephen Rollnick, Paul Ekman, and Daniel Goleman.

Distress & Emotion Management is often enhanced with 1:1 Therapy – during your intake appointment an effective treatment plan will be worked on collaboratively.
